Trichloroisocyanuric Acid is a disinfectant, algaecide and bactericide mainly for swimming pools and it is also used as a bleaching agent in the textile industry. It is widely used in civil sanitation for pools and spas, preventing and curing diseases in animal husbandry and fisheries, fruit and vegetable preservation, wastewater treatment, as an algaecide for recycled water in industry and air conditioning. For easier dosing and reduction of its odor it is typically sold as tablets or dust free granules.
The material contains chlorine which makes a wet handling very difficult (pH value 2.5 – 4) because of the corrosive behavior. Therefor the chemical is dried in the process and the fine powder will be compacted to granules in a dry process.
This dry process contains the compaction of the powder to so called flakes. In a several crushing steps process the flakes will end up in granules for example 5 – 15 or 10 – 30 mesh. Typically the parts in contact with the TCCA are made out of stainless steel. The change to a different granule size is quite easy and can be made by changing the screen opening in the screening machine.
